Eucalyptus, Blue Gum (Eucalyptus globulus)

There are over 700 varieties of eucalyptus. Eucalyptus globulus is the most common oil, but there are many other types of eucalyptus that produce essential oils. Commonly known as Blue Gum, it has major expectorant effects that act directly on the Lung system to clear Lung-phlegm. Strongly associated with the Metal element, it tonifys the Qi of the Lung system by clearing dampness and congestion. This oil decongests and opens the chest and can help to dispel melancholy by restoring both vitality and improving a positive outlook.

Eucalyptus, Narrow Leaf (Eucalyptus radiata)

One of the 500 varieties of eucalyptus that can produce essential oil, Narrow-leaf eucalyptus is a much more gentle version of the Blue Gum variety. Narrow-leaf eucalyptus also has a strong action on the Lung system draining Dampness and resolving Phlegm in the system. It can also tonify the Qi of the Lung system and gently supports the immune system. This gentle oil can be safely used to support systems that are deeply deficient.

Rosemary is a lovely evergreen shrub that emits a strong fresh, and slightly woody scent when brushed. In Ancient Egypt, sprigs of rosemary were burned as incense. The Ancient Greeks and Romans held the plant up as sacred, a symbol of loyalty. Rosemary oil is an excellent Yang tonic that can help to promote the circulation of Qi and Blood throughout the body. warm, pungent, and stimulating by nature, rosemary can clear mental fatigue and bring clarity to thought. Its strong affinity to the Fire element helps it reinforce the Heart and empower the mind (Shen).

Rosemary (Rosmarinum officinalis)

Sweet, herbaceous, and fresh, Basil has been used as both a culinary and medicinal herb all the way back to the Ancient Egyptians. Basil oil can soothe the nervous system and reduce the effects of acute stress-related conditions. This oil is nourishing to the Liver Yin and supports the Qi of the Spleen system. It helps to calm the mind (Shen) and relax constrained Qi.

Cypress (Cupressus sempervirens)

Cypress is an evergreen conifer that can grow up to 145 feet tall. Evidence of Cypress being used as an incense and medicine has been found to be on papyri of Ancient Egypt. Cypress oil is cool and astringent by nature and can aid in the harmonizing of the flow of Blood. This oil has been historically used as one of the main treatments for menstrual disorders. It can also ascend the Qi of the Spleen system as well assist the Kidney in grasping the Lung.
